PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Senior Robert Cronheim surged to third in the final standings at the 2009 Big Five Invitational, shooting an even-par 71 in the final round to lead the Big Red to its third consecutive top 10 team finish this year. As a team, Cornell shot a 311 on day two at the Philadelphia Cricket Club for a two-day total of 609 to place eighth in the 17-team field.
Cronheim answered his first round 73 with a 71 to finish at +2 for the tournament, four strokes behind medalist Zak Drescher of Campbell. Matt Jaye finished tied for 16th overall with a two-round total of 149.
The Big Red returns to action this weekend at the Ivy League match play tournament.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Cornell golf team put together its best team round of the season and ended day one of the Big Five Invitational in fourth place after shooting a 298 on Saturday afternoon at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. The Big Red trails Richmond by five strokes on the leaderboard and is just one shot out of second place, as both Yale and Campbell carded 297's. The Cornell is currently second out of five Ivy League schools in the 17-team field.
On the par-71 course, junior
Matt Jaye finished day one tied for fifth overall after shooting a 1-over-par 72 to lead three Big Red golfers in the top 25 individually.
Robert Cronheim is just a shot behind and sits tied for 11th in the 90-player field, while
Dan Bosse is at +4 through one round and is tied for 21st. Rounding out Cornell's scoring on day one was freshman
Mark Baity, who was 44th after shooting a 7-over-par 78.
Larry Heymont also suited up for the Big Red and shot an 89.
Sunday's play will conclude the tournament.
