ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell equestrian team finished sixth of 15 teams at its own Cornell Fall Show on Saturday at the Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red scored 33 team points on the day, with Skidmore winning with 45 total points.

The day started with senior Brooke Cagwin winning her open fences class, a great way to start a day. Classmate Nicole Finazzo rode to a strong second place finish, while junior co-captain Georgina Melbye and senior co-captain rode to fifth and fourth place finishes, respectively.

The team's intermediate fences group was next to follow with junior Kelsey Craig riding to fifth, while freshman Emily Webster placed third in her class. Freshman Emily Kowalchik and sophomore Caroline Rusk competed for the Big Red in the Novice Fences class with Kowalchik jumping to a third-place Rusk finished fourth.

The Big Red had Cagwin and Melbye riding, as well as senior Zoe Samuel, for the open flat. Samuel came out with a ribbon, a second-place effort. The team only showed one intermediate rider because of limitations of horses, but Kelsey Craig bounced way back from the morning to win her flat class.

Cornell had two relatively new riders for the novice flat in junior Samantha Duxbury and sophomore Melissa Kenny. Both had been waiting for their chance to break through, and they did with strong showings, four-place and third-place finishes, respectively.

Junior Morgan Broccoli needed only three points to qualify and she got the points with room as she rode to a second-place finish in advanced walk-trot-canter, while senior Ji Min Kim rode to a third-place finish in beginner walk-trot-canter.

Once again, the walk-trotters rode very well, with sophomores Charmaine Tan and Carolyn Tsai riding for the Big Red. Tan was second and Tsai was fourth.

The Big Red will compete in the Morrisville Show on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 14 and 15.
