Women's Polo Continues Unbeaten Start With Victory Over UConn

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Big Red women's polo team continued its perfect start, running out to an early lead and cruising to a 26-7 victory over Connecticut on Saturday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 6-0 with its second consecutive victory over the Huskies.
The starting lineup of Jess Cross, Lizzie Wisner and Erin Bold opened the game on the right foot, scoring four times before the Huskies got on the board. Cornell ended the first chukker ahead 6-1 on the strength of Wisner's four goals and never looked back.
The Huskies clawed back to within 3 at 7-4 before Cornell matched them to end the half ahead 10-5. After halftime, it was all Cornell. Led by Wisner's six goals in the third, the Big Red shut out the Huskies 9-0 to extend its lead to 19-5 starting the fourth. The team were not done though, Ali Hoffman joined Wisner and Bold for the fourth and the home team continued to pour it on, extending its lead to the final score of 26-7.
Wisner led all scorers with 14 goals, while Bold scoredfour, Hoffman had three and Cross scored once. The ponies were credited with a pair of goals and Cornell was awarded two penalty goals in the victory.
Next up for the Big Red is the William Field Invitational beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at the Oxley Equestrian Center.
