Afternoon Rally Lifts Big Red To Third On Sunday At Morrisville Show
Bookmark and Share
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Sunday's second day of the Morrisville Show didn't start off well, but it ended with a Cornell flurry en route to rallying all the way for a third-place effort. Cornell scored 34 points, including 29 in the afternoon session to outscore every team after registering just five points in the morning. Included was a run of 21 straight points. Morrisville won the show with 43 points, while Skidmore was second with 39.

Day two started with open fences, and junior captain Georgina Melbye rode to a second-place finish to highlight the event. Freshman Emily Webster came in and rode great to her first IHSA win in her intermediate fences class. The novice riders had a good morning, as sophomores Caroline Rusk and Justine Gentilini both rode great. Rusk was second in her class and Gentilini won her group. Freshman Emily Kowalchik rode to a great second place.

Then the fireworks began.

In the afternoon open flat, senior Zoe Samuel rode the first win of the afternoon and started the team right up. Melbye was next up and she placed second, while Cagwin finished third.

Gentilini was first to ride in the intermediate flat division and she rode to a third-place finish, while Webster placed fourth. Craig was determined to redeem herself with a win and that she did, adding to the 29 points of the afternoon.

The novice flat team came through for us with some great performances. Kowalchik was first to ride and she obviously did not like being second in the morning and came away with her first IHSA win, continuing the streak for the afternoon. Rusk was back and rode to a great second-place finish, as did her classmate Melissa Kenny.

First-timer Joelle Jach rode wonderfully to a second place in walk-trot-canter, while sophomore Carolyn Tsai finished second to complete the comeback.

The Big Red returns to action at Skidmore on Saturday, Nov. 21.
