ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's and women's swimming and diving teams hit the road for the first time during the 2009-10 campaign when they visit Princeton to face the Tigers and the Penn Quakers on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21 at DeNunzio Pool. The Cornell men's team will have its tri-meet on Friday at 5 p.m., while the Big Red women will swim Saturday at 4 p.m.
The men's team is coming off an opening weekend split with Ivy rivals Dartmouth (W, 207-93) and Harvard (L, 177-123). Sophomore Michael Cai's three event wins led the way, as the Big Red won six total individual events. The Big Red leads the all-time series with Penn (51-23), but the Tigers have a giant advantage over the years against Cornell with a 55-5-1 lead. The three teams had their first meets against each other during the 1910-11 season.
The women also matched last season's dual meet win total after splitting with Dartmouth and Harvard opening weekend. Chiara Spinazzola won a pair of events and set a pool record in a 190.5-104.5 victory over Dartmouth and a 166-98 loss to the Crimson. Both Penn and Princeton hold significant leads over the Big Red. The Quakers have a 20-9-1 edge, while Cornell has never defeated the Tigers in dual meet competition (0-27).
