Lizzie Wisner scored 11 goals and the Big Red held off a Connecticut charge to claim a 17-14 victory on Sunday afternoon. Cornell is 5-0 on the season after the victory and completed a weekend sweep after a Friday evening win at Harvard.
The Cornell women completed a weekend road sweep by winning a hard fought match against the Huskies. Cornell took the early lead and then saw the fight back to tie it at 3-3. The Big Red closed out the first with another goal to take a 4-3 lead into the second.
Ali Hoffman, Jess Cross and
Lizzie Wisner remained up for the second and the Huskies fought back to tie it at 8-8 just before the half.
Erin Bold replaced Cross for the third and the two teams traded goals to end up still tied after three with the score knotted 12-12. Cross came back in for Hoffman in the fourth and the Big Red quickly jumped to a four-goal lead. The Huskies fought back to within two at 16-14, but would get no closer as Cornell tallied the final goal to make it a 17-14 win. Wisner tallied 11 goals for the Big Red. Bold scored three times, Cross had two and Hoffman notched one.
Cornell and UConn will have a rematch on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
