ITHACA, N.Y.—The No. 3 Big Red wrestling team shutout Princeton, 54-0 to pick up its second Ivy League victory of the season and move to 9-2 overall on Saturday afternoon at the Friedman Wrestling Center. Troy Nickerson, Mack Lewnes, Steve Anceravage and Cam Simaz all pinned their opponents, while Jordan Leen won by technical fall and Justin Kerber picked up a major decision.
At 125 pounds, No. 1 ranked Nickerson faced Robert Benitez. With only five seconds off the clock Nickerson took down his opponent and racked up two nearfalls before pinning Benitez in 1:34.
Cornell quickly grabbed an 18-0 team lead after Princeton forfeited at 133 and 141 pounds.
At 149 pounds, sophomore Eric McGill squared off against Daniel Kolodzik. After a scoreless first period, Kolodzik chose to start the second down on the mat but could not escape McGill's clutches. McGill quickly escaped to start the third and with 28 seconds left in the bout earned a takedown. The Big Red wrestler grabbed another point when Kolodzik was hit with his second stall warning, and with 2:23 in riding time McGill won a 5-0 decision.
Returning NCAA champion Jordan Leen faced Marty Everin at 157 pounds. Leen quickly took control of the match with a takedown with 30 seconds off the clock and racked up six back points and another takedown before the period was over. Leen immediately escaped from his opening down position in the second period and within three seconds had another takedown. He cut Everin loose with 1:37 left on the clock, and with another takedown and nearfall, Leen won an 18-2 tech fall in 3:48.
At 165 pounds, No. 1 ranked Mack Lewnes took on Mike Alvarez. With 14 seconds off the clock, Lewnes took down this opponent and quickly earned two back points. The Big Red wrestler continued to tilt his opponent until he won by fall in 1:17.
After halftime, the Big Red's No. 6 Steve Anceravage wrestled Travis Erdman. Anceravage notched three takedowns before winning by fall in 1:46 to put the Big Red up, 38-0.
At 184 pounds, No. 16 Justin Kerber was next to take the mat against the Tigers' Kurt Brendel. Kerber held a 6-2 lead after the first period after earning three takedowns. Brendel chose to start the second period down on the mat, but could not escape. Kerber immediately escaped to start the third, and within 10 seconds he had another takedown. Kerber would notch three back points, and with 5:40 in riding time he won a 13-3 major decision.
At 197 pounds, No. 14 Cam Simaz faced Zach Morse. Simaz was up 8-3 after the first period, and took a 13-4 lead before pinning his competition in 4:01.
At heavyweight, Zach Hammond won by forfeit.
The Big Red will take on Penn at 3 p.m. at the Friedman Wrestling Center on Sunday afternoon.
