Equestrian Wins Ivy League Show

WESTFORD, Mass.—The Big Red equestrian team won the Ivy League show on Saturday afternoon at Volvo Farm. Cornell riders won four individual titles, while three finished in the reserve champion spot. Justine Gentilini won both her Novice Fences and Novice Flat classes, and in a ride-off was named high point rider of the day.

The Big Red finished in first with 41 points and was followed by Dartmouth (36), Brown (27), Columbia (23), Princeton (22), Yale (21) and Penn (19).

In Open Flat, senior tri captain Caroline Shulman took first place in her section to advance to the championship class where she won the title. Senior Candace Berne and junior Nicole Finazzo each took third, while Emily Kenyon and Georgina Melbye placed fifth and seventh, respectively.

Junior Brooke Cagwin took second in her Open Fences class and was joined by senior Jessica Bemis in the championship class. Cagwin finished as reserve champion, while Bemis placed fourth overall. Shulman placed third in her section, while Melbye and freshman Catherine Chew took fifth and seventh, respectively.

Freshman Lauren Bookbinder took first in her Intermediate Fences class to advance to the championships where she took fourth overall. Berne placed fourth in her section, while freshman Claire Dube was sixth.

In Novice Fences, sophomore Rachel Klion and Gentilini took first in their respective sections to advance to the finals. Klion brought home the individual championship, while Gentilini finished third overall. Freshman Caroline Rusk and sophomore Samantha Duxbury both placed fifth in their sections.

After the lunch break, classes resumed with Intermediate Flat. Zoe Samuel, Gentilini, and Mary Winans each won their section to move on to the finals. Samuel was named the individual champion, while Winans finished as reserve champion. Cagwin and Dube each placed fifth in their section.

In Novice Flat, sophomore Lauren Lavo took first in her first ride at that level and placed fifth overall. Freshman Melissa Kenny took third, while senior Marie Ceranowicz was seventh in her section.

In Advanced Walk-Trot Canter, Elizabeth Briggs placed second, while classmate Morgan Broccoli took first. Both riders competed in the championship class, where Broccoli finished as the champion and Briggs was named reserve.

Freshman Kelsey O'Shea placed first in beginner Walk-Trot-Canter and finished fourth overall. Junior Ji Min Kim took fifth in her section, while sophomore Scotty Weber was fourth.

In the Walk-Trot class, freshman Carolyn Tsai took first and placed fourth overall. Freshman Charmaine Tan placed fourth in her section.
