Max Seibald '09 has been selected to play in the 2009 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star game, as was announced by the league this morning. The game will take place at Denver's INVESCO Field at Mile High Stadium on Thursday, July 16, and will be televised live on ESPN2 at 10 p.m.
While the League has implemented an East vs. West format for the past two seasons, this year's game will return to the popular Old School vs. Young Guns format, with Seibald playing for the latter. The Young Guns squad is comprised of players from the 2007-2009 draft classes, while the Old School squad will be made up by those players from the classes prior to and including 2006.
Seibald, the 2009 Tewaaraton Trophy winner, was the second overall pick in the 2009 MLL Draft and has seen action in four games for the Outlaws. He has tallied four goals, two 2-point goals and an assist on the season, to go along with 11 ground balls. Following his first professional contest vs. Washington he was named the Bud Light MVP of the Game.
In addition to the game, there are several fun activities and events planned in and around the Denver area in the days leading up to the game. On Wednesday July 15th, MLL players, coaches, and staff will be at Skyline Park along the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. MT to teach fans about the game of lacrosse, participate in shooting games and much more. Later in the day, join your favorite MLL All-Stars for a Long Drive Competition at Green Valley Ranch Country Club. A $50 entry allows for 5 drives against an All-Star. Each contestant will receive 2 tickets to the All-Star Game and proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club. A Media Event is also planned for the evening.
On Thursday, fans will have the opportunity to lunch with select MLL All-Stars at the Brown Palace Hotel. The All-Star Game Fan Fair will begin at 4:30 p.m. MT on Sports Legends Mall outside INVESCO Field followed by a tree planting ceremony with MLL Founder Jake Steinfeld, Esurance, The Park People, members of the Denver Outlaws and their staff, several youth lacrosse teams and select MLL All-Stars. Further details for these events will be announced in the coming weeks.
The 2009 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game begins at 10 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 with Joe Beninati and Quint Kessenich calling the action. Halftime will include the Bud Light Skills Competition. Participants for the Skills Competition events will be announced at a later date.
