ITHACA, N.Y. – It's Championship Weekend for Major League Lacrosse and Cornell University will be well represented with five former players – Ryan McClay '03, Mitch Belisle '07, Matt McMonagle '07,
John Glynn '09 and
Max Seibald '09 – all making an appearance.
The weekend's first semifinal game features the #1 seed Denver Outlaws versus the #4 seed Boston Cannons on Saturday, August 22 at noon. Denver features Seibald, who recently finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting, while McClay and Belisle are key members of the Boston defense. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2/ESPN2 HD.
“The older guys on the team have really helped me make the transition to the MLL game and have made the transition enjoyable for me,” said Seibald. “And now, having the opportunity to compete in Championship Weekend is an awesome feeling. Going head-to-head against Mitch (Belisle) will be quite the experience. Even though we are close friends, we are both fierce competitors, and if we do get matched up it will be quite the battle, just like it was back in Ithaca for practice.”
Later that day, the #2 seed Toronto Nationals will face the #3 seed Long Island Lizards at 3 p.m. The Nationals are the only team in the championships to not have a former Big Red player on it, while the Lizards are home to McMonagle and Glynn. The game will be streamed live on ESPN360.com.
The Championship game will take place on Sunday, August 23 at 1 p.m., and will be broadcast live on ESPN2/ESPN2 HD.
