ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's soccer team has added a pair of coaches who will work with the Big Red throughout the 2009 season, head coach Danielle LaRoche announced on Wednesday. Jen Spiker and Rosemary Davis have joined the Cornell coaching staff.

Spiker brings a tremendous amount of collegiate coaching experience to the Big Red after coaching on the staff at West Virginia for 11 seasons. Spiker began as an assistant coach with the Mountaineer program and was promoted to assistant head coach in 2004, where she remained until 2007. While with West Virginia, Spiker helped to guide the Mountaineers to a #10 national ranking by the NSCAA and a berth in the final 16 of the NCAA tournament. West Virginia made seven straight NCAA tournament appearances while Spiker was on the Mountaineer coaching staff, and had six players named NSCAA All-America, including one Hermann Trophy finalist, and had four United States National Team and four Canadian National Team players.

As a player, Spiker began her career at Monroe Community College, winning the junior college national championship and being named an All-American in her second season. She moved on to the University of Rochester, where she helped her team to a berth in the national final and was named to the national all-tournament team.

Davis, who will work with the Big Red goalkeepers, served as an assistant coach at Kenyon College last season and spent the spring as an assistant coach at Decatur High School. Davis was a four-year starter in goal for Kenyon from 2004-2007, earning first-team all-conference and second-team all-region honors. She also helped guide the Ladies to their first conference championship and first appearance in the NCAA tournament, advancing to the second round. She was also a part of the Georgia Olympic Development Program from 1998-2003, playing for the 24th-ranked club team in the nation.

The Big Red opens the 2009 season on Friday, Sept. 4, when it plays host to Binghamton in a 7 p.m. contest at Berman Field.
