ITHACA, N.Y. -- Senior men's soccer player Brett Sumpio has been selected to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team for the second year in a row, announced on Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Sumpio, a native of Woodbridge, Conn., is a repeat winner after earning first-team honors as a junior in 2009. After garnering a spot on the team as a forward last year, he moved back into the midfield as a senior and was selected as one of three midfielders on the first team.

Sumpio, who has a 4.12 grade point average on a 4.00 scale in applied economics and management, has appeared in 13 games this season for the Big Red, starting six of those contests. With his selection to the all-district first-team, Sumpio will now appear on the national ballot and is eligible for Academic All-America honors.

To be eligible for the Academic All-America program, student-athletes must have a minimum of a 3.20 grade point average, be a starter or important reserve, and have played in at least half of the team's games.

The Big Red closes out the home portion of the 2010 season on Friday when it takes on Dartmouth in a 7 p.m. contest at Berman Field. Sumpio and his 10 fellow seniors will be recognized prior to the match for their role in helping to rebuilding the Cornell men's soccer program.
