Kentucky Outlasts Cornell In Men's Polo, 12-11

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Cornell men's polo team missed an opportunity to win the match late in regulation, but Kentucky took home a shootout victory after two rounds and took home a 12-11 victory on Sunday. The Big Red fell to 10-4 with the loss.

The Wildcats jumped to a 3-0 lead before Cornell drew back to within one with consecutive goals. Kentucky ended the chukker up 5-2 after answering Cornell's run with one of its own. The Big Red fought back in the second and pulled the score to within one 7-6 at the half. In the third chukker, the Wildcats managed to increase their lead by a goal to make it 10-8 heading into the fourth. The visitors were not done though as Constant, Connor Pardell and Branden Can Loon came out well in the fourth and actually took the lead at 11-10 with just under a minute to play. Kentucky scrambled for a tying goal with 30 seconds to play before fouling with three seconds left. The Big Red missed the opportunity to win the game in regulation and headed for the shootout.

After one round the match was still knotted up. It came down to the final shooter in the second round for Cornell after the Wildcats had pulled up by one, but the Big Red couldn't convert and the Wildcats celebrated the victory. Constant totaled five goals for the Big Red, Pardell had three and Van Loon notched one, with the team adding a penalty and pony goal.
