HAMDEN, Conn. -- Justin Krueger and Tyler Roeszler scored a goal each as the Cornell men's hockey team picked up a 2-0 victory at Quinnipiac on Friday night in Hamden, Conn. The Big Red got 32 saves from senior goaltender Ben Scrivens, who picked up his 15th career shutout in the victory.

Brendon Nash, Blake Gallagher and Dan Nicholls chipped in an assist each for the Big Red (13-5-3, 10-2-2 ECAC Hockey), which went 1-for-5 on the power play on the night.

For Quinnipiac (13-12-2, 7-8-0 ECAC Hockey), sophomore netminder Dan Clarke stopped 14 shots in taking the loss, his 10th of the season, as the Bobcats dropped their second straight game and remained winless in their last 10 games. Quinnipiac was held scoreless in four man-advantage opportunities.

Cornell needed just 5:09 to get on the scoreboard, making the Bobcats pay for the first penalty of the night. Cornell cycled the puck around to Brendon Nash at the right point, who passed across to Gallagher for a one-timer near the top of the faceoff circle to the right of Clarke. Gallagher's shot was blocked, but the puck came off to Krueger in between the circles, and the senior's back-handed shot slipped between the legs of Clarke for the early 1-0 lead.

The Big Red, which had been out-shot, 20-10, through two periods, added a little insurance just 2:28 into the third period when Tyler Roeszler scored his first goal of the season. Dan Nicholls gained the Quinnipiac zone and threw the puck at the goal, where it was bobbled into the crease by Clarke. Roeszler made a tremendous diving effort to get a stick on the puck to jam it into the goal. The officials reviewed the play, only to confirm the valid goal as Cornell took a 2-0 lead.

Cornell returns to action on Saturday, making the trip to Princeton, N.J., for a 7 p.m. contest against the Tigers.
