ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell sophomore
Jessi Steinberg has been named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Big Red pick up its first Ivy win of the season last weekend. Steinberg's offensive explosion helped Cornell to a split at home over Columbia and nationally ranked Loyola.
Steinberg had eight goals in two games, including the game-winning score against Columbia in the Ivy opener. After the Lions tied the game at 4-4 less than a minute into the second half, the Big Red scored five of the next six goals, including three by Steinberg, to give Cornell an insurmountable 9-5 edge with three minutes to play. She added three draws and two ground balls. Steinberg had a career-high six goals against the Lions and added two scores against nationally ranked Loyola in an 11-9 loss.
Steinberg and the Big Red return to action on Saturday, March 20 when it visits Harvard at noon in Cambridge, Mass.
