ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell sophomore forward Catherine White was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year, the league office announced on Saturday afternoon. White won the award over other finalists Sarah Parsons of Dartmouth and Kate Buesser of Harvard in voting conducted among the league's 12 coaches.

Last season's league rookie of the year, White picked up 24 assists in 22 ECAC Hockey contests this season, the only player in the league to average better than an assist per game. She finished third in the league scoring race with 31 points on seven goals and 24 assists and picked up 11 points on the power play on two goals and nine assists to lead the league.

White becomes the first Cornell player in school history to earn the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year award. She also garnered first-team all-league honors this season after leading Cornell to the regular-season championship.

White and her Cornell teammates will play for their first-ever ECAC Hockey tournament title and NCAA tournament berth on Sunday when Cornell plays second-seeded Clarkson in a 4 p.m. contest at Lynah Rink.
