Menaker, Towne Earn Ivy League Weekly Honors

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell senior Elise Menaker and freshman Kristen Towne earned weekly honors when the Ivy League honor roll was announced today by the league office. Menaker was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Towne was cited as Rookie of the Week for their play in helping Cornell get off to a 4-0 start at tge George Mason Invitational.

Menaker hit .500 with a home run, five RBI and three runs scored in hfour starts. She hit safely in all four games, including a 3-for-4 effort with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI in the first of two wins over Bucknell. She also drove in a pair of runs with a single in the season opener against Marist. 

Towne batted .364 in four starts with a double, triple, home run and team-best five RBI. She posted a .909 slugging percentage in her first four collegiate games, added two runs scored and three walks and was perfect in 11 chances in the field. In her first collegiate contest, Towne slammed a home run in a win over Marist, then answered with a triple and two RBI in the first win over Bucknell.

The Big Red returns to action for five contests this weekend at the Mason Cherry Blossom Classic.
