ITHACA, N .Y. – For the second time this season, Cornell's
Rob Pannell has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, as was announced by the conference office this afternoon. Pannell earns the honor for the second time in a three-week span after helping the Big Red to a crucial victory over No. 18 Harvard.
Pannell capped an eight-point day by scoring the game-winning goal with 11 seconds to play, giving the No. 12 Big Red a much-needed 13-12 victory over the Crimson. Pannell led the Big Red offense with three goals and five assists, registering five of his eight points in the crucial fourth quarter, as Cornell erased an 8-7 deficit to earn its third Ivy League win.
In addition to the game-winner, the sophomore attackman also scored the game-tying goal with 2:42 to play in the contest. He also caused three turnovers, helping Cornell to cause six failed Harvard clears. Even more impressive, Pannell did not turn the ball over at any point during the game.
Pannell, who has assisted on nearly 50% of team's total assists, currently leads the nation both in points (5.10) and assists (3.30) entering Tuesday's contest vs. No. 2 Syracuse. Cornell and the Orange will face-off at 7 p.m.
