WASHINGTON, D.C. – Cornell sophomore
Rob Pannell has been named one of 26 nominees for the 2010 Tewaaraton Trophy, presented to the nation's top male collegiate lacrosse player, as was announced by the Greater Washington Sports Alliance this afternoon. Five finalists will be chosen by a selection committee of collegiate coaches later in the season.
Pannell, an All-American and the reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year, has been the catalyst of the Big Red offense this season, currently ranked first in the nation in both points (5.10) and assists (3.30) per game. He has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week twice this season and was recently named the Nike/
Inside Lacrosse Division I Player of the Week. The quarterback of the Big Red offense, Pannell has assisted on more than half of Cornell's total team assists (50.7%) and no one in the country has registered more 5+ assist games on the season than Pannell, who has handed out five or more assists on four occasions.
Pannell recently tallied his 100th career point in just his 25th career game and owns the second longest point scoring streak on the team and fourth longest in the nation, having registered a point in every game of his collegiate career (28 games).
The Tewaaraton Award was formally established in August of 2000 and is the pre-eminent lacrosse award, which is given annually to the NCAA men's and women's lacrosse player of the year. Last season, Cornell's
Max Seibald took home the trophy.
The award will be presented on June 3, 2010 at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. For additional information on the award or to purchase tickets please visit:
