PRINCETON, N.J. – Cornell's AJ Fiore has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, as was announced this morning by the conference office. The accolade is the first of Fiore's career and the fifth overall for the Big Red this season.

Fiore earned the honor after posting the best performance of his young career on April 13 as he helped the Big Red to nearly pull off the upset of No. 1 Syracuse, before the Orange scored as time expired to steal the 8-7 victory. The rookie goalie posted a career-high 20 saves, many of which were brilliant stops against one of the most powerful and diverse offenses in the nation. Fiore made 14 saves in the critical second and third quarters to allow the Big Red to take the slim 5-4 lead heading into the final stanza. He also faced a flurry of shots in the fourth quarter and turned away four, including one in the final moments of the game before getting beat with no time left on the clock.

A native of Ithaca, N.Y., Fiore currently ranks ninth in the country with an 8.21 goals-against average and 15th overall with a .568 save percentage.

Fiore and the Big Red are back in action this weekend as it plays host to Brown at Schoellkopf Field on Saturday, April 24 at 1 p.m.
