Men’s Tennis Places Three on All-Ivy List

4/30/2010 11:09:32 AM

PRINCETON, N.J. – Cornell junior Andy Gauthier was named first-team All-Ivy in singles, and was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection with his doubles partner Jeremy Feldman, when the list was announced this morning by the conference office. Also earning All-Ivy accolades was second-team selection Jon Jaklitsch.

Gauthier, who earned Ivy League honorable mention accolades with Feldman in doubles last season, becomes Cornell's first first-team All-Ivy selection in singles since Brett McKeon was honored in 2006. The junior played predominantly at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spot, after playing in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots all last year, and posted a 4-3 record in Ivy play and was 18-7 during the spring dual match season.

As a tandem, Gauthier and Feldman were the conference's top doubles team with a perfect 7-0 Ivy League record and a stellar 17-5 spring dual match record at the No. 1 slot.

Jaklitsch earns his second-straight second-team All-Ivy selection after a season in which he went 5-2 in the conference and an impressive 17-6 during the spring dual match season while playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spot.

The Big Red ends the season with an 18-7 record overall and a mark of 5-2 in the Ivy League, good for second place in the conference standings. Cornell finished in second place for the second straight year, the program's best back-to-back finishes since the official formation of the Ivy League in 1956.
