ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell junior gymnast Maddie Pearsall and senior rower Erica Crumphave been selected as ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District I At-Large First Team honorees, as announced by the organization on Thursday. Both student-athletes now advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
Pearsall is a first-team academic all-district pick for the second straight year after earning USAG All-America honors on bars this past season. The team's top scorer in the event and a three-year starter, she has the school's third-highest all-around score in school history (38.600). An NCAA regional qualifier in 2008 when she was named the ECAC Rookie of the Year, she has captured six USAG All-America honors in her three year career. She was instrumental in the team's first-ever USAG national title in 2009 when she finished in the top 10 in all five events, including a second-place finish on bars and in the all-around. She has also been a part of three consecutive Ivy Classic team champions. Pearsall is a member of the Dean's List, an Academic All-Ivy pick and a member of the school's 400 Club for posting a 4.0 semester grade point average. In the classroom, Pearsall has posted a 3.95 grade point average in Information Science, Systems and Technology.
Crump was named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team following the 2009 season. A walk-on with no prior rowing experience, she has made a significant impact on the Big Red varsity over the past two seasons. Sitting in the No. 2 seat this year, Crump has helped Cornell to earn its first national ranking since the 2004 season. The team placed sixth at the Eastern Sprints, the group's top finish at the regatta since 1996. Crump is also a member of Cornell's 400 Club, which honors student-athletes that achieve a perfect 4.0, which she has done in both Spring 2008 and Fall 2008.
