2010-11 WrestlingReport.com preseason NCAA tournament rankings
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell wrestling team ranks No. 1 in the 2011 preseason NCAA tournament scoring poll by wrestlingreport.com and has seven wrestlers ranked in their respective weight classes, including three in the top two. The Big Red finished third in the preseason DPI (Dual Percentage Index) by the same group, ranking only behind Oklahoma State and Boise State in dual meet strength with the returning lineup.
None of the rankings by the WrestlingReport.com take into account incoming freshman, several of whom could impact the Big Red's lineup.
Mack Lewnes, the defending national runner-up at 174 pounds, stands atop his weight class, while reigning All-American
Cam Simaz is ranked No. 1 among the returners at 197 pounds. Defending national champion at 141 pounds,
Kyle Dake, was ranked in anticipation of a mov eto 149 pounds and sits No. 2. Also in the top 10 are
Steve Bosak (No. 5 at 184 pounds),
Mike Grey (No. 5 at 133 pounds) and
Justin Kerber (No. 9 at 165 pounds). Frank Perelli, last year's bnackup to four-time All-American
Troy Nickerson, sits No. 12 at 125 pounds.
Using only returning wrestlers, Cornell was estimated to score 94 points at next year's NCAA tournament, finishing ahead of Boise State (88) and Oklahoma State (75).
