ITHACA, N.Y. -- A pair of Cornell men's squash players won a bronze medal representing Team Canada at the 2010 World Junior Team Championships earlier this month in Quito, Ecuador. Sophomore Arjun Gupta and freshman Nick Sachvie were both victorious in the decisive bronze-medal match for Canada against England.

Canada entered the tournament as the fifth-seeded team, but the efforts of the Cornellians helped to propel the Canadians to a third-place finish. The two earned victories as Canada won, 2-1, in the bronze medal match, with both players winning a decisive and dramatic fifth game. Gupta, in particular, rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win the fourth and decisive fifth games, claiming victory with a 12-10 score in the fifth game.

Canada opened the tournament by winning its two round-robin matches, defeating Venezuela and New Zealand to finish atop Pool E. The Canadians then knocked off Mexico and fourth-seeded India to advance to the semifinals, where their run ended at the hands of top-seeded Egypt before recovering to claim third place against England.

Sachvie finished the tournament with a 4-2 record, while Gupta went 3-2 in the team tournament play.
