ITHACA, N.Y. -- Union scored five unanswered goals in the second and third periods, turning around a 1-0 Cornell lead and defeating the Big Red men's hockey team, 5-1, on Saturday night at Lynah Rink in Ithaca. The 13th-ranked Dutchmen struck for two goals in the second period and three in the third, including an empty-net tally, to rally for the victory.

Joe Devin scored the lone goal of the night for the Big Red (7-9-1, 5-5 ECAC Hockey), with Tyler Roeszler and Greg Miller collecting assists. Andy Iles got the start in goal and made 35 stops on 39 shots before being lifted with 9:11 to play in favor of Mike Garman, who stopped the two shots he faced in the final minutes. Cornell went scoreless in four power-play chances on the night.

Union (15-6-3, 7-2-1 ECAC Hockey), meandwhile, got a pair of power-play goals from Daniel Carr and single tallies from Brock Matheson, Kevin Sullivan and Wayne Simpson. Sullivan and John Simpson both had a pair of assists, while Matheson, Josh Jooris, Matt Hatch, Kelly Zajac, Mat Bodie and Jeremy Welsh each added one assist. Keith Kinkaid got the win in goal, stopping 16 of the 17 shots he faced as the Dutchmen went 2-for-4 on the power play on the night.

Devin got the Big Red on the scoreboard just 1:16 into the game, poking home a rebound off a shot from Roeszler, and Cornell took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission despite being out-shot, 10-5. In the second, Carr got the Dutchmen on the board with his power-play tally at the 6:20 mark of the period, and Matheson gave Union a 2-0 lead with 2:40 to play in the period with his shot from the top of the circles with Iles on the ice in a heap of traffic in front of the goal.

Carr made the score 3-1 with his second tally of the night at the 6:24 mark of the third period, and Sullivan ended Iles' night with the fourth Union goal at the 10:49 mark. Simpson added an empty-net tally with 3:50 to play to cap the scoring in the contest.

Cornell returns to action next weekend, playing the home-and-home series with Colgate. The series opens on Friday night with a 7 p.m. contest at Starr Rink in Hamilton, N.Y., before the scene shifts to Cornell's Lynah Rink on Saturday, also starting at 7 p.m.
