SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Freshman
Brianne Jenner had a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Cornell women's hockey team to a 4-2 victory over Union on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y. The win keeps Cornell, ranked second in the nation, undefeated in ECAC Hockey action at 12-0 and moves the Big Red's overall record to 17-1 on the season.
Lauriane Rougeau and
Rebecca Johnston both tacked on a goal for the Big Red, while
Karlee Overguard had a pair of assists and Johnston added one. Senior
Katie Wilson got the start in goal and stopped 12 of the 14 shots she faced for the victory.
For Union (1-20-3, 0-10-2 ECAC Hockey), Callee Heywood and Jeannie Sabourin scored goals, with Elsa Bruestle, Nicole Barnett and Lauren Hoffmann picking up assists. Kate Gallagher stopped 32 of the 36 shots she faced.
Cornell never trailed in the contest, taking the 1-0 lead at the 14:41 of the first period with Johnston's goal, and Rougeau added her tally at the 12:09 mark of the second. Jenner made the score 3-0 late in the third period before the Dutchwomen finally got on the board at the 1:50 mark of the third.
Cornell returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Erie, Pa., for a 7 p.m. matchup with Mercyhurst. Tuesday's contest is a rematch of a classic earlier this season that saw the Lakers hand Cornell its only loss of the year, a 4-3 overtime defeat on Nov. 2 at Lynah Rink.
