Rebecca Johnston scored three goals while
Hayley Hughes and
Amanda Young both tallied one as the Cornell women's hockey team scored a 5-0 victory at Yale on Friday night. The three goals for Johnston give her 100 points for her career, the second Big Red player to reach that milestone this season.
Lauren Slebodnick, making her first career start, made 23 saves for the shutout victory for the Big Red.
Brianne Jenner and
Xandra Hompe both chipped in with a pair of assists, while Hughes and
Olivia Cook both added one assist. Cornell finished the night scoreless in two power plays, while not being whistled for a penalty on the night. Yale netminder Jackie Snikeris made 29 saves in the loss for the Bulldogs.
After a scoreless first period, Johnston got the Big Red on the board with her first goal of the night just 3:04 into the second period, with Jenner and Hompe collecting assists. Hughes made the score 2-0 at the 9:00 mark of the period with her goal, assisted by Cook, while Johnston tacked on her second at the 14:53 mark of the period.
In the third, Young got on the board at the 6:40 mark with an unassisted goal, and Johnston completed her hat trick with her third goal at the 9:43 mark of the period, with Johnston and Hompe both picking up assists.
Cornell returns to action on Saturday when it takes on Brown in a 4 p.m. contest at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, R.I.
