Total Team Effort Lifts Women's Hockey Past Brown, 3-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Dressing just 11 skaters, the Cornell women's hockey team got offensive contributions from six of them and 15 saves from freshman goaltender Lauren Slebodnick to pick up its third straight shutout, blanking Brown, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, R.I. The Big Red improves to 15-1 on the year and 10-0 in ECAC Hockey action with the victory.

Kendice Ogilvie, Rebecca Johnston and Xandra Hompe each tallied a goal for the Big Red, while Karlee Overguard had a pair of assists and Hayleigh Cudmore and Amanda Young both tacked on an assist. The Big Red went 1-for-5 on the power play on the night, while Slebodnick stopped all 15 shots she faced in the contest, including eight in the second period.

Brown netminder Katie Jamieson stopped 36 shots in taking the loss for the Bears, who fall to 2-10-3 overall and 1-6-3 in league play. Brown finished the night scoreless in its two power-play chances.

Ogilvie put the Big Red on the scoreboard at the 10:57 mark of the first period for her first goal of the season, and Johnston doubled the lead at the 10:36 mark of the second on an unassisted goal. Hompe then scored her first career tally in the third, scoring a power-play goal with Overguard and Cudmore picking up assists on the play.

Cornell returns to action on Friday, traveling to Rensselaer for a 7 p.m. contest against the Engineers at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y.
