ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman Jason Luu and classmate Kyle Berman both won doubles titles and finished second in their respective singles brackets to highlight the Big Red men's tennis team's performance over the weekend at the Cornell Fall Invitational.

Competitors from Cornell, Lafayette, Duquesne, Buffalo, Princeton and Binghamton spanned the four championship brackets in the three-day event.

Luu teamed with freshman Sam Fleck to win A Singles, defeating teammates Evan McElwain and Alex Sidney in the final, 8-4. Both Big Red teams had to defeat tandems from Buffalo in Saturday's semifinals. Luu, who was unseeded in A Singles, advanced all the way to the top flight's finals with victories over Duquesne's Alex Aleman, Buffalo's fourth-seeded Wojtek Starakiewicz and Duquesne's Aram Abgaryan, who knocked off top-seeded Cornell freshman Alex Sidney in his previous match. Luu then fell to Buffalo's third-seeded Damien David in a three-set finale, having won the first set in a tiebreaker. Cornell's McElwain and freshman Quoc-Daniel Nguyen also won matches in the first round.

Berman rolled to the B Singles final with straight-set victories over Lafayette's James Oliver, Buffalo's Jason Shkodnik and Binghamton's Ruben Haggai. Buffalo's Travis Zappia then defeated Berman in the final, 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Chris Song was the other Cornell competitor to win a match in the bracket, taking out Duquesne's Mehdi Mekaoui in a three-set first-round match. In B Doubles, Berman teamed with sophomore Zhongming Chen to roll through three matches to the title.
