Women's Lacrosse Helps With Flood Relief Efforts in Owego

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's lacrosse team volunteered in the neighboring town of Owego on Sunday to help clean out the damaged residences devastated by flooding in September.

Paired with Cornell's Public Service Center for Flood Relief, Big Red women's lacrosse worked to clean up one area seemingly untouched since the flooding two months ago. With trash bags and gloves, the team cleared the woods of littered trash and other flood-damaged items from people's homes. The team even combined the efforts and muscle power to flip over a reversed shed in one resident's backyard.

“It was really empowering to get together as a team and tackle such a huge project,” said senior Ali O'Neil. “Flipping the shed all together showed me just how much can get done with a group of dedicated people.”

At the end of the day, seeing the countless bags filled with trash by the side of the road proved what an incredible impact just a bit of the team's service can have on the community.
