All-Around Effort Leads Gymnastics In Win Over Brockport

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell gymnastics team had won all four events and also claimed four individual titles as the Big Red knocked off the top-raned team in Division III, Brockport, with a 190.350-181.875 dual meet matchup on Friday evening at Teagle Gymnasium. Cornell improved to 2-0 in dual meet competition on the year and registered its third score of 190 or greater in its first four meets.Melanie Jorgensen posted the fifth-highest all-around score in school history (38.150).

On vault, Sarah Hein's 9.625 led Cornell to a 1-2-3 sweep on the event as the Big Red posted a 47.475 as a group. Maddie Pearsall (9.6) and Jorgensen (9.5) also reached the medal stand. Persall also walked away with the bars title. as her 9.650 highlighted the Big Red's sweep of the top five spots. Bethany Neczypor (9.625) and Jorgensen (9.575) had the next two highest scores on the apparatus.

The beam team was led by Melanie Standridge, whose 9.650 was good for first as the home team again swept the top five spots. Jorgensen (9.4) and Kim O'Donnell (9.35) finished second and third, respectively. Closing out the afternoon with the floor exercise, Jorgensen ended her strong afternoon with a 9.675, just ahead of Brockport's Kaitlin Dewey (9.65) and McKenna Archer (9.65).
