ITHACA, N.Y. -- Beginning today, February 8, fans can bid on the throwback sweaters that will be worn during the Feb. 18 contest against Harvard with the nameplates of the favorite players at each number, selected by the Lynah Faithful, through an online auction at www.CornellBigRed.com. Bids will be accepted until Wednesday, March 2, with a minimum bid of $125 on each jersey.
The throwback sweaters, modeled after the jerseys worn by the 1967 NCAA championship team, are a part of the 50th year of ECAC Hockey. A fan vote held in early February selected the fans' favorite players at each number, with those nameplates to adorn the backs of the throwback sweaters. Cornell's players will wear those sweaters on the ice on Feb. 18 against Harvard, with the auction set to close nearly two weeks after that contest.
Proceeds from the auction will go toward a service project in the Dominican Republic, the continuation of a trip to that nation two years ago. This year's trip will work toward the construction of a multi-purpose building to be used for adult and child instruction, community gatherings, church services and as a hurricane refuge.
