Cornell Men's Lacrosse Class of 2015 Player Biographies

Connor Buczek – 6-2 – A – Cincinnati, Ohio
(St. Xavier HS)
A recent selection to the United States U19 men's lacrosse team, Buczek was a two-time high school All-American. He was a four-year letter winner at St. Xavier HS, serving as team captain during his junior and senior seasons. He helped his team to back-to-back Region 4 championships in 2008 and 2009. Buczek was named the 2011 Midwest Scholastic League Player of the Year and was a two-time first-team All-MSLCA selection. He was named all-state and all-region three times and was his team's MVP as a junior and as a senior. Buczek also set the St. Xavier record for most points in a single-season and most points in a career. He also lettered in football twice and was named all-league as a senior.

DeLuca on Buczek: Connor is a big, strong, athletic player that is a natural attackman but has the ability and size that would allow him to bump to the midfield. His skill set is exactly what we're looking for on the offensive end and he is really a complete package in terms of being able to score and assist. He can go to the goal or create for others.

Chris Cook – 5-10 – A/M – Manhasset, N.Y.
(Loomis Chaffee School)
Cook played for Manhasset HS before attending Loomis Chaffee for a post-graduate season. He led Manhasset in scoring as a senior with 35 goals and 30 assists as he helped the Indians to the 2010 New York State Class C championship. For his efforts, he was named all-county. In 2011, he led Loomis Chaffee in scoring with 30 goals and 19 assists and was named All-New England. Cook's father, Kevin '84 and uncle, Ed Cook '86 were All-American lacrosse players for the Big Red.

DeLuca on Cook: We are proud to have another Cornell legacy choose to come to Ithaca. Chris's father Kevin had a wonderful career on East Hill and I'm sure it will be very meaningful for him to put on a Big Red uniform. He's a player with a high lacrosse IQ and enjoyed a successful high school career, winning a state championship with Manhasset.

Matt Donovan – 6-0 – A – Morristown, N.J.
(Seton Hall Prep)
Donovan earned two varsity letters at Seton Hall Prep before attending The Lawrenceville School for the 2011 season. After helping Seton Hall to the Essex County tournament in 2010, he led Lawrenceville to the NJISAA championship and MAPL championship in 2011. Donovan was named first-team all-state and was selected to the Inter-AC Invitational All-Tournament team in 2011. He also won Lawrenceville's Pershing Trophy for lacrosse. Donovan is the grandson of Eddie Donovan, the former General Manager of the New York Knicks who won an NBA championship in 1970.

DeLuca on Donovan: We have high expectations for Matt. He is a player in the mold of Robert Pannell in that he is a quarterback behind the cage with the ability to score and feed. He's a player that makes his teammates better and he has a fantastic work ethic, which will help him tremendously when he gets to campus.

John Hogan – 5-9 – M – Annapolis, Md.
(Deerfield Academy)
Hogan lettered four times at St. Mary's HS before attending the Deerfield Academy for a post-graduate season. As a senior captain he was named first-team all-county, first team All-Metropolitan Baltimore, first-team All-MIAA, honorable mention All-Metropolitan Washington and ESPN RISE honorable mention. Hogan was the team's leading scorer as a junior and was named second-team all-county as a result. He was also named to the UnderArmour Underclassman team and the Maryland Freestate team. In his one season at Deerfield, Hogan was named All-New England.

DeLuca on Hogan: John is a coach's kid with a very high lacrosse IQ. He is a quick, shifty player with great skills and we think he can develop into a talented two-way midfielder for us.

Connor Hunt – 6-4 – D – Alamo, Calif.
(De La Salle HS)
A high school All-American in 2011, Hunt was a three year letter winner at De La Salle HS, serving as team captain during his senior season. He was a two-time first-team all-league selection and helped his squad to back-to-back section championships in 2009 and 2010. Hunt also played football and basketball.

DeLuca on Hunt: Connor will bring to the team what we've been lacking on defense over the past few seasons, as he has tremendous size. He's a great athlete and is one of the best defenders in his class. We're excited to see what he will be able to do based on his size, range and skills.

Mike Huttner – 5-11 – M – Fair Haven, N.J.
(Rumson Fair Haven HS)
A high school All-American, Huttner lettered four times at Rumson Fair Haven HS. He was named the 2011 Shore Conference Player of the Year after helping his team to the Shore Conference championship. As a senior captain, he was selected first-team all-state and earned his fourth consecutive all-division honor. Hutter was also a two-time first-team All-Shore selection, after being a second-team choice as a sophomore. He also lettered three times in football.

DeLuca on Huttner: Mike is blue collar athlete that plays tough in-between the 30s. He was also a standout football player in New Jersey and we think he will be able to contribute early based on athleticism and toughness.

William Joyce – 6-0 – G – Chevy Chase Md.
(Salisbury School)
Joyce lettered three times at the Landon School before attending the Salisbury School for a post-graduate season. He was a high school All-American in 2010, as well as a High School All-Tewaaraton Team selection. He led Landon to three IAC championships and served as team captain during his MVP senior season. Joyce was named All-IAC, first-team All-Metropolitan Area and the Washington Post Montgomery County Player of the Year. He was also named second-team all-state and played in the Maryland Senior All-Star game. At Salisbury, he was named All-New England and played in the East/West Senior All-Star game. Joyce also lettered three times in both football and hockey.

DeLuca on Joyce: Will has great skills and a great lacrosse pedigree and we expect him to push AJ and Andrew for playing time in the fall. He is one of the better goalies in his class thanks to his lacrosse IQ and his skills. He is an accomplished and polished player that excels in directing the defense, stopping the ball and pushing transition with his ability to outlet.

Jack Molloy – 5-9 – A – Basking Ridge, N.J.
(Delbarton School)
Molloy was a three-time letter winner at the Delbarton School, helping his team to a Morris County championship and a state championship during his senior season. He was named honorable mention all-state, Daily Record first-team and all-conference.

DeLuca on Molloy: Jack is a slick, small attackman with great skills. He's shifty around the goal and he comes from a great lacrosse program, playing at the Delbarton School for Cornell alumni Chuck Ruebling '83.

Russell Scott – 6-4 – D – Germantown, Tenn.
(Memphis University School)
A high school All-American, Scott was a three-year letter winner at the Memphis University School. As a senior captain, he led his team to a Tennessee State championship in 2011. He was twice nominated for the Best of Preps Lacrosse and was a two-time first-team all-state selection in 2010 and 2011.
Scott has a total of 14 family members that attended Cornell, while his grandfather, Thomas W. Scott, is a retired professor of Agronomy in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He also comes from an extremely athletic family, with his father Tom (football), four uncles and two cousins having played varsity athletics at Cornell.

DeLuca on Scott: Russell brings a big, physical presence and a great frame to the defensive end of the field. Coming from Tennessee, he's a little raw, but he has all the physical tools and we hope he'll adjust quickly to the college game.

Jordan Stevens – 6-1 – D – Smithtown, N.Y.
(Smithtown HS West)
Stevens was a four-year starter at Smithtown HS West, serving as team captain during his senior season. He was also a member of the Long Island Empire State team.

DeLuca on Stevens: Jordan is one of the best defensemen in his class. He has fantastic skill and footwork and with his work ethic we expect him to make an immediate impact on our defensive unit.

Erik Turner – 6-1 – A – St. Albert, Alberta
(St. Francis Xavier)
Turner graduated from St. Francis Xavier after attending both The Hill Academy and Vimy Ridge Academy. He earned four varsity letters and was named a 2011 Adrenaline All-American. As a senior captain at St. Francis Xavier, he was named team MVP. Turner also served as captain of the Team Alberta U19 squad after playing on the U16 team. He was the first overall pick in the 2010 Alberta Junior A box lacrosse draft after serving as team captain for the Rams Midget A box team in 2008 and 2009. Turner also lettered in basketball four times, serving as team captain at Vimy Ridge and earning all-city honors.

DeLuca on Turner: Erik has a little bit of an X-factor to him. He's got the typical skills you expect from a Canadian with his ability to get to the goal, but he brings the versatility to play attack or midfield. He'll also benefit from the fact that he attended the Hill Academy, so he has some experience with the field game.
