ITHACA, N.Y. — Forward Brianne Jenner -- recently named to the Canada Women's National Team -- showed her offensive prowess against some of the best Canada has to offer on Friday night.

Jenner scored twice in a six-minute span during the second period to help the second-ranked Cornell women's hockey team to a 5-2 victory over Brampton of the Canadian Women's Hockey League in the Big Red's exhibition debut at Lynah Rink.

Jenner's first goal came 5:10 into the middle stanza, breaking a 1-1 tie when defenseman Hayleigh Cudmore sent Jenner away on the left wing. Jenner dragged the puck around the inside of the defenseman while skating by on the outside before getting free and snapping a shot high to the far post. She then provided what proved to be the game-winner when she converted after Jillian Saulnier's shot from the right circle went wide and caromed to Jenner off the back boards.

Freshman goalie Stefannie Moak was called upon to make several big saves soon after her entry, which coincided with Jenner's second goal. All in the final six minutes, Moak made a save on Sarah Moe during a two-on-one, then shrugged away a shot when Lori Dupuis cruised out of the left circle. She then got a piece of a shot from Jayna Hefford on a breakaway and thwarted Hefford a couple minutes later on a two-on-one.

Brampton pulled to within a goal early in the third on a rising shot from Gillian Apps, but the Big Red regained control on a hard-working Taylor Woods goal off a rebound of an Erin Barley-Maloney shot. Barley-Maloney also assisted on the game's final goal, with Woods taking the initial shot and defenseman Laura Fortino converting on the rebound.

Saulnier scored Cornell's other goal with less than a minute remaining in the first period after a 150-foot rush up the left wing. Lauren Slebodnick earned the start in goal, playing the first 30:28 and allowing one goal on 13 shots.

The Big Red will participate alongside the men's team in Saturday's Red/White Game, then return to exhibition play at 3 p.m. Sunday against the reigning CWHL champion Montreal Stars.
