PRINCETON, N.J. –
John Schilkowsky had a terrific race at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, taking seventh place in the 212-athlete field to lead the Big Red to a seventh-place team finish against 23 other teams.
The race, run on the West Windsor Fields which will be the site of the Ivy League Championship for the second consecutive year, featured several other Ancient Eight squads in a competitive field.
Schilkowsky completed the eight-kilometer course in a time of 24:30, coming in 22 seconds ahead of the next-closest Big Red runner. That runner was freshman
Ben Rainero, whose time of 24:57 was good for 30th place overall.
David Melly was next for the Big Red, placing 48th in 25:09.
Completing the Big Red scoring quintet was Sam Baxter (58th, 25:18) and
Brian Eimstad (60th, 25:19) who finished just a second apart.
The Big Red totaled 203 points on the day, just 10 behind sixth-place Buffalo and 40 ahead of eighth-place Stony Brook. Stony Brook's Eric Speakman won the race as an individual while Saint Joseph's was the team champion with 46 points and all five of its scorers in the top 15.
Also running for the Big Red was Chris Cristoff (88th, 25:37) and
Jonathan Phillips (91st, 25:39) who also finished very close to each other. Their two-second game meant all five Big Red runners came in under 25:40.
Cornell will be in action again with its only home meet of the year, racing in the John Reif Memorial Run on Friday afternoon in Ithaca.
