ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell gymnastics squad exploded for a season-high team score and Tiffany Chen earned an Ivy title on vault, but the Big Red couldn't overcome Penn at the top. The Quakers came home with the 2012 Ivy Classic title, its second straight, on Sunday afternoon at Newman Arena.

The Big Red posted a 191.875, its first meet of the year breaking 190.000, but the Quakers went 192.650 to claim the victory. Both Brown (191.075) and Yale (190.725) also broke the 190.000 barrier in taking third and fourth, respectively. Cornell's second place finish made it eight straight season finishing first or second at the meet.

Chen's 9.775 on vault matched Brown's Michelle Shnayder for the top slot. It marked the fifth straight season at least one Cornell gymnast earned an Ivy Classic title.

McKenna Archer was the runner-up on beam with a 9.725, one of six gymnasts to hit that mark or better. Morgan Traina from Yale won the event with a 9.825.

Melanie Jorgensen placed third on bars with her 9.825, one of four gymnasts to go 9.8 or better at the meet. Alexis Schupp was tied for fifth with a 9.725. Penn's Dana Bonincontri won with a bars routine that scored a 9.9.

Bonincontri also won floor (9.800) and was the top all-arounder (39.100). Joining her atop the list on floor was teammate Kirsten Strausbaugh. Chen was Cornell's top finisher with a 9.700, good for a sixth-place tie.
