ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell senior forward
Rebecca Johnston has been named a finalist for the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year Award, the league announced Monday.
Johnston, who was the league's Rookie of the Year in 2008, has had an excellent senior season. She leads Cornell and the entire conference with 51 points on the year. She has scored 25 goals, a team high, and also notched 26 assists to showcase her balanced scoring efforts.
In conference-only games, Johnston is second among all scorers with 32 points, falling just behind linemate
Brianne Jenner's 34. Her plus/minus of +30 is tops in the league in conference-only games.
Johnston excels in big moments, earning six of the team's game-winning goals. She has four markers on the power play, and her disciplined style has only seen her go to the penalty box four times this year.
The league's Player of the Month back in January, Johnston has also been named as one of the nominees for the Patty Kazmaier Award given to college hockey's best player. Johnston was a top-10 finalist last season.
Along with Johnston, Harvard's Jillian Dempsey and Clarkson's Erica Howe are the other finalists for the league's Player of the Year Award. The award winner will be announced Thursday at a banquet before the conference's tournament semifinals in the Statler Hotel.
