Ivy League Release

ITHACA, N.Y. – Women's lacrosse senior captain Jessi Steinberg was named the Ivy League's Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday, following a 12-point week where she took over as No. 6 on the school's all-time scoring list.

Steinberg's week began with a five-goal effort at home against Canisius on Tuesday.  The senior scored all five goals in the game's first 31 minutes, after which she was pulled to give other athletes more playing time. Steinberg also tacked on one assist in the Big Red's huge 21-7 victory.

Over the weekend against No. 7 Notre Dame, Steinberg kept a streak alive by scoring four goals. The game was her third in a row with at least four goals, and Steinberg also added two assists in Cornell's first loss of the year. Her four goals were scored consecutively in a span of just three and a half minutes.

This is the fourth time in her career that Steinberg has earned an Ivy League weekly award. She was the last Big Red player to win Offensive Player of the Week when Cornell upset Notre Dame in double overtime last year. She also earned the honor twice as a sophomore.

The award is Cornell's second of the season, as senior captain Cacki Helmer was named Defensive Player of the Week last Monday.

Cornell looks to get back in the win column on Tuesday when it takes on Jacksonville in the Dolphins' home stadium. First draw is set for noon.
