Five Gymnasts Earn USAG All-America Honors, Three Advance To Saturday's Event Finals

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Five Cornell gymnasts earned USAG All-America honors on their individual events and three advanced to Saturday's event finals on Thursday evening at Bridgeport University. Both Melane Standridge (beam) and Melanie Jorgensen (bars) will attempt to repeat their 2011 USAG national titles, while McKenna Archer (vault) will look for her first crown. Additonally, Tiffany Chen and Sarah Hein (vault) were named second-team All-Americans.

Cornell had 12 individual gymnasts competing in a total of 18 events on day one at the 2012 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championships.

Standridge had the highest score on beam in the first session by a full point, outdistancing Texas Woman's Stephane Repp with a 9.850 to ensure her third USAG All-America finish in her career.

Archer earned her first All-America accolade with a career-high 9.875 in session two, the second highest score of the round. She will compete for her first USAG national title on Saturday.

Jorgensen went 9.875 on bars to finish first in session two and will compete for her second straight USAG title on Saturday as well.

Both Chen and Hein scored 9.750 on vault to place seventh in session 2, earning the duo second-team All-America status. For Chen, it was her third All-America citation.
