ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Venkat Iyer and freshman Sam Fleck earned spots in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's final Northeast Region singles rankings, as did the doubles team of Fleck and classmate Jason Luu. The Big Red men's tennis team was also tabbed sixth in the region after winning its final three matches of the season.

Iyer is ranked seventh in the region, having primarily held down the top spot in the singles lineup. He posted a 10-11 record in dual matches and a 2-5 mark in Ivy League play on his way to an All-Ivy League Second Team selection. His league victories came consecutively against Dartmouth's Michael Laser on April 8 and Brown's Soufin Azargui on April 14.

Fleck was tabbed No. 12 in the Northeast by the ITA after a stellar debut campaign. He was 11-11 overall with a 10-8 record from his most-familiar No. 2 singles slot, including an impressive 5-2 record in Ivy League play. Those five victories came in a string to close out the season, including a marathon 7-5, 6-7(6), (10-4) victory over Penn's Nikola Kocovic on April 20. He's the first Cornell freshman to earn an All-Ivy First- or Second Team spot since the league branched off from the EITA in 1999. The Ivy League had only first-team selections until 2004, and Jeremy Feldman was the Rookie of the Year and Honorable Mention in 2008 — though the latter category has since been eliminated.

Fleck also led the Big Red in doubles victories with 12, teaming with Luu to make up the Big Red's most successful doubles tandem. Fleck and Luu were selected 10th in the region by the ITA after posting a 9-5 mark in dual matches — including an 8-2 record from the No. 2 spot. On April 7, the duo defeated Harvard's Alistair Felton and Casey MacMaster, a team that finished the season ranked fourth in the Northeast and 77th in the country.

With five freshmen and one sophomore frequently comprising the lineup, the youthful Big Red posted three straight Ivy League victories to close out a 10-15 season.
