ITHACA, N.Y. – Six Big Red women's hockey players have made the cut for Canada's Under-22/Development Team, Hockey Canada announced on Sunday.

Senior Laura Fortino, juniors Jessica Campbell, Hayleigh Cudmore and Brianne Jenner will be joined by sophomore Jillian Saulnier and incoming freshman Cassandra Poudrier.

Those six players are part of a 22-woman roster that will compete against the United States' Under-22 team on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Calgary, Alberta. The 22 members of the team, including Cornell's six representatives, were selected from an initial group of 40 that also included Cornell sophomore Emily Fulton.

“It was difficult to narrow it down, but we know the 22 players chosen to play three games against the United States will represent Canada with confidence and class,” head coach Lisa Jordan said in a press release.

During three intrasquad games at the Hockey Canada camp, Cudmore and Saulnier scored third-period goals of the final game for their Gold team, and Saulnier also scored during the first game.

Fortino and Jenner both have experience playing for the Canadian Senior National Team and won the gold medal at the IIHF World Championship in Vermont in April. Campbell, Poudrier and Saulnier were also part of Canada's bronze-medal team at the 2012 Meco Cup in Germany.

Saulnier is the lone player out of the 22 who is from Nova Scotia.

The Canadians and Americans will face on Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m.

After their contests with the American team, Cornell's six athletes will continue to be evaluated and have a chance to play at the 2013 Meco Cup in January.
