9/23/2012 5:16:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Big Red golf team finished third at the Cornell Invitational on Sunday, giving the program its highest finish in a tournament since 2007. Junior Zack Bosse led the host team's 'A' squad charge to a second-place finish in the individual portion of the event.

Binghamton won for the second consecutive season, improving on its Day 1 score by a stroke in Sunday's final round to post a final number of 593. Medalist Josh Holling led the way with his second straight round of 1-under-par 71. He birdied three holes in a four-hole stretch in the back nine to storm out to the individual lead, then parred 17 and bogeyed the 18th to hold off Bosse.

The Cornell junior shot a 1-over 73 on Sunday, carding birdies on the fourth and eighth holes to go out in 34. His Saturday score of 70 was the best round of the tournament.

The last time the Big Red finished as high as third in a tournament was Oct. 14, 2007, when it topped the 15-team field at the Big Five Invitational in Philadelphia. Junior tri-captain Max Koehler shot 75 in Sunday's final round to finish tied for 18th individually with a score of 153. Freshman Brandon Eng built off a strong second nine in the first round to card a 75 on Sunday, finishing tied for 33rd with a two-total of 156.

Fordham finished second, four strokes behind Binghamton with a team score of 597. Cornell 'A' (604), Bucknell (605) and Lafayett (610) rounded out the top five in the 13-team field. The Cornell 'B' team was led by junior Lukas Schuh, whose 75-84—159 tied for 43rd individually.

Cornell will be idle next weekend before returning to action Oct. 7-8 for the Binghamton Invitational at the Links at Hiawatha Landing in nearby Apalachin.
