ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's hockey team will be holding its annual fundraiser for the United Way of Tompkins County in conjunction with its season opener against Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
The team will look to surpass the attendance record for the event, which was set when 2.326 fans came out to support the United Way and watch Cornell beat ECAC foe Clarkson 3-0 on Dec. 4, 2010. Approximately $3,000 was raised for the organization that year.
As always, a donation will be made to the organization for every fan in attendance. There will also be a raffle and other prizes given throughout the afternoon.
The Cornell community continues to be the single largest contributor to the United Way of Tompkins County Community Campaign, contributing almost 40 percent of total gifts each year.
Thousands of Cornell staff and faculty members use United Way-related services every year, ranging from day care for infants to helping senior citizens. Many are unaware of the United Way's connection to these programs.
Donations can be made at the game or via the United Way of Tompkins County
website.
