ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman punter
led a Cornell contingent of nine All-Ivy League football players when the teams were announced on Tuesday afternoon after voting by the league's eight head coaches. Fraser was also selected as the conference's Rookie of the Year, while senior captains
Fraser is Cornell's second Ivy League Rookie of the Year in the last four seasons and just the fourth in school history. The Big Red's first all-league first-team punter since Drew Alston in 2010, Fraser led the Ivy League in punting average (42.9 yards per punt), setting a school record for a season in that category. He ranked 17th nationally and was third among freshmen in punting. As a unit, Cornell ranked 11th in net punting (38.12 yards per punt), a mark that also led the Ivy League. In 49 punts, he pinned opponents inside the 20 a total of 16 times (33 percent) with nine going at least 50 yards.
Gellatly, a second-team pick a year ago, set Cornell single season receiving records with 91 catches for 1,224 yards and also hauled in eight touchdowns. He led the league and ranked second nationally in receiving yards per game (122.4) and receptions per game (9.1). Gellatly finished his career ranked second at Cornell in career receptions (194) and receiving yards (2,486) and was fifth in all-purpose yardage (3,766 yards). He had a school-record 10 career 100-yard receiving games and two 200-yard games in his career and was a Capital One Academic All-District first-team selection. It is the third straight year Cornell has put a wide receiver on the All-Ivy first team after
A two-time defensive captain, Buehler ranked second in the Ivy League in tackles (103), a mark that ranked 12th nationally. An honorable mention all-league selection a year ago, he averaged 10.9 tackles per game in Ivy play and added 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, three pass breakups and a forced fumble on the season. For his career, Buehler recorded 256 career tackles with 19.0 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, eight pass breakups and five sacks.
Mathews ended his career as the most prolific quarterbacks in Ivy League history and one of the best in college football. He ranks among the top 20 all-time in career passing yards in the FCS and set the Ivy League's all-time passing record by more than 2,000 yards. Mathews ended his career with 47 Big Red school records and 18 Ivy League marks for passing and total offense. He led the conference in completions (228), attempts (360), passing yards (2,953), total offense yards (2,935), passing yards per game (328.1 ypg) and total offense per game (326.1 ypg.) and was second in passing touchdowns (22) while running for four more. He ranks in the top 30 in FCS in passing yards per game (fourth), total offense (fifth), completions per game (sixth), points responsible for per game (ninth), passing yards (15th), passing touchdowns (22nd), passing efficiency (22nd), yards per completion (26th) and completion percentage (29th). Mathews accounted for at least three touchdowns in six of his nine games this past season. The three-year team captain was named one of 16 finalists for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy that recognizes the top football scholar-athlete in the nation. He is a Capital One Academic All-District first-team selection and a two-time finalist for the Bushnell Cup for the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, winning in 2011.
Five different Big Red players earned honorable mention all-league accolades.
Hagy led all Ivy League running backs in receptions (55), receiving yards (652) and receiving touchdowns (five), ranking fifth in the Ivy League in receptions and seventh in receiving yardage. He also led the Big Red in rushing (340 yards).
Minor ranked third on the team with 46 tackles and first overall with his 7.0 tackles for loss. He also recorded a half-sack, an interception, a fumble recovery, two pass breakups and two blocked kicks. The two-year captain moved from defensive end to linebacker as a senior and made his final game one to remember, posting his first career interception, then blocking a game-tying PAT attempt with just over a minute to play in the win at Penn.
Turner had 32 tackles, a team-best three interceptions and six passes defended while also forcing three fumbles and posting two tackles for loss. He was second in the Ivy League in forced fumbles (ninth nationally), third in interceptions (30th nationally) and 12th in passes defended. Turner recorded interceptions against Bucknell, Harvard and Penn.
Cornell had a pair of offensive linemen earn all-league honors, starting with Wagner. A mainstay on the offensive line and the only player to start all 10 games, he is a three-year starter at left guard and opened his final 30 career games. Wilk, a freshman All-American a year ago, is a two-year starter at center. The duo blocked for an offense that ranks ninth nationally in passing offense and was first in the Ivy League.
