PRINCETON, N.J. – For the third consecutive week, a member of the No. 2 Big Red men's lacrosse team has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, as
Rob Pannell has been honored for the second time by the conference after helping Cornell to a pair of victories. Over the course of two games Pannell also became the all-time career assist leader in Cornell history, surpassing the late Eamon McEneaney '77.
Pannell led the Big Red to a come-from-behind win at No. 8 Virginia with six points, five of which came in the decisive 7-2 run over the final 20 minutes, as Cornell beat the Cavaliers in Charlottesville. Pannell scored with 2:12 to play to give the Big Red an 11-10 lead and then assisted on the game-winner as he found
Steve Mock on the crease with just 13 seconds left in regulation.
Earlier in the week, Pannell kept the Big Red in the game early on at Canisius, having a hand in five of Cornell's first seven goals as the Big Red held just a 7-6 lead with 8:10 remaining in the third period. He finished the game with four goals and four assists.
Pannell, who has been named Ivy Player of the Week eight times during his career, is now third on the Ivy League career lists for points (286) and assists (168). He and the Big Red are back in action next weekend as the team opens Ivy League play at Yale on Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m.
