Men's Hockey's Miller Signs With AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers

4/19/2013 1:49:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League announced Friday that they have signed Cornell senior Greg Miller to a professional contract for the 2013-14 season. Miller has led the Big Red in scoring for three consecutive seasons, was a 2013 All-Ivy League First Team selection and earned the 2013 ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Forward Award.

Miller once again led Cornell in scoring with 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points in 33 games this season — making him the Big Red's first three-time leading scorer since Matt Moulson '06. But he has also been a steady defensive presence and was named a finalist for the best defensive forward award last season, too. He won 58 percent of his faceoffs and committed just two minor penalties in his fourth and final season with the Big Red and was on the ice for an opponent's five-on-five goal just six times in 22 league games. Of the top 26 players in plus/minus rating in ECAC Hockey, just two played for a sub-.500 team — Miller and linemate Brian Ferlin (plus-10). His plus-18 rating was far and away the best on the team.

The Connecticut-based Bridgeport Sound Tigers are the AHL affiliate for the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, where Moulson currently serves as an alternate captain. Miller is the first member of the Big Red's Class of 2013 to sign a professional deal, though his does not take effect until the 2013-14 season.
