National Rankings (.pdf)
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's track team got a bit of great news on Tuesday afternoon as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association ranked the Big Red at No. 19 in the country.
The top-25 ranking is the first in program history under the new rankings system which began in 2008.
The Big Red just missed the top 25 last week, but on Tuesday Cornell moved up eight spots in the points system to crack the top 25.
Cornell is the first Ivy League team in the national rankings since Princeton earned the No. 25 ranking early in the 2011 outdoor season for one week. Cornell is the second Ivy League men's team ranked in the top 25 during the outdoor season since this rankings system and the highest ever Ivy League team.
The Big Red, ranked No. 1 in the Northeast Region all season, owe the top 25 national ranking to another strong showing at the Penn Relays. Cornell had multiple event victories and are building toward the postseason in earnest this weekend.
Cornell will attempt to back up its Indoor Heptagonal Championship from February when it travels to Princeton on Saturday and Sunday for the Outdoor Heps. The Big Red men last won the Indoor and Outdoor Heps in the same year in 2009.
