BOSTON – After posting some of the best offensive numbers by a rookie in the history of Major League Lacrosse, Cornell alumni
Rob Pannell '13 was named the 2013 Cascade Rookie of the Year Award winner, as was voted on by the MLL coaches and general managers. A member of the New York Lizards, he ended the season ranked on the all-time rookie scoring list in all three categories, finishing second in totals points (42), third in assists (17), and fourth in goals scored (25).
“It's an incredible honor to be named Cascade Rookie of the Year considering the amazing talent of this year's rookie class,” Pannell told Sean Desmond of MajorLeagueLacrosse.com. “It has been a whirlwind end to my college career and start of my professional career and this award caps off a great summer. A lot of credit also goes to my teammates who have made it easy for me to come into the League and continue to do what I have done in my last two years of college.”
Pannell earned seven first-place votes, out of a possible 16, to edge out Ohio Machine attackman Logan Schuss, who finished with five. Rochester's Dave Lawson snagged the remaining two first-place votes, but Hamilton's Tucker Durkin actually finished third in the balloting with six second- and four third-Place votes.
After concluding his collegiate career as the NCAA's all-time points leader, Pannell was named the 2013 Tewaaraton Award winner, and went on to make his MLL debut the following day, recording a hat-trick and an assist on his way to earning Cascade Rookie of the Week honors. An exceptional offenxive player who made an immediate impact on the Lizards, he was also named to the 2013 All-Star team in July.
