Gymnastics Earns Clean Sweep of Cortland In Dual Meet Win

CORTLAND, N.Y. – For the second straight season, Cornell won all four team and individual events as the Big Red gymnastics team topped Cortland 189.750-181.650 on Saturday afternoon at Corey Gymnasium Park Center.

The Big Red posted a strong 48.325 on bars and a 47.925 on floor to lead the way. The visitors posted the top five individual scores on bars led by Melanie Jorgensen's 9.800. Lexi Schupp placed second with her 9.725 , while Elana Molotsky (9.675), Elise Kerner (9.600) and Mackenzie Sato (9.525) rounded out Cornell's scorers.

Alicia Bair (9.775) held off teammate Sara Schupp (9.700) on vault, while sister Lexi Schupp placed fourth (9.500). Big Red teammates Jessie Starcevich (9.550) and Maia Vernacchia were (9.550) tied on beam, while Hannah Clark (9.500) was the only other gymnast with a 9.5 or better to finish third.

Lexi Schupp tied for first on floor with her 9.700, while Julohn Teixiera and Mackenzie Sato each hit 9.575 for fourth. The senior Schupp also had the highest all-around score with a 37.350.

Cornell will head to Philadelphia next weekend for the Ken Anderson Invitational at Temple. Ursinus and West Chester will also compete in the meet, which will begin at 1 p.m.
