ITHACA, N.Y. -- Matt Kerwick will serve as the interim head coach of the Big Red men's lacrosse team for the entirety of the upcoming 2014 season. Kerwick has served as an assistant coach for Cornell since September 2012. Additionally, Peter Milliman, who was hired this past summer, will continue in his role as assistant coach for the 2014 campaign.

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Kerwick came to East Hill with 15 years of head coaching experience under his belt and has worked primarily with the Big Red offense, helping Cornell to a 14-4 record overall and an undefeated Ivy League championship in 2013. He spent the 2012 season with Georgetown, working as an associate head coach on Dave Urick's staff. Kerwick played for Urick at Hobart College, where he was a two-time All-American, won four consecutive Division III national championships, and was named the 1989 NCAA tournament MVP.

Kerwick served as the head coach of his alma mater for seven seasons, helping Hobart to the Patriot League championship in 2002 and to two NCAA tournament appearances (2002, 2004). After winning the conference championship in 2002, he earned Patriot League Coach of the Year honors and was also selected as the ECAC Co-Coach of the Year in 2008. In addition to his time with Hobart, Kerwick also had head coaching stints at Jacksonville University, which played its inaugural season at the Division I level in 2010, as well as Randolph-Macon and Alfred University.

A national search is underway for the next Richard M. Moran Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse, with on-campus interviews commencing following the completion of the 2014 season.
